Marjorie Elizabeth Whitt Walker passed away on  Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025.   She was born in Athens to Martin Frankin Whitt and Lula Adkins Whitt on February 6, 1929.  She loved Athens and lived all but four of her years there.

She graduated from Athens High School in 1947 and Athens College in 1950 and earned a graduate degree from Peabody College in Nashville in 1952.  Marjorie married Walter A. Walker, Jr. in 1950 and spent over 70 happy years with him until his death in 2021. She taught elementary school at Belle Mina, Crestline Elementary School in Birmingham and Alabama History at Julian Newman Elementary School in Athens before retiring in 1990.

Marjorie was raised in the Presbyterian Church but became a member of the First United Methodist Church in Athens upon her marriage.  She served the church by teaching Sunday School, as President of the United Methodist Women, and many other ways too numerous to mention.  She loved her church, her family and her friends and spent many years traveling to Alabama football games with her husband and friends.

She volunteered with numerous charities including Meals on Wheels and was on the Board of Hospice of Limestone County. Marjorie was also a member of the Athens Athena League, the Four Arts Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Athens Study Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband and her sister Anna Whitt Lee.  She is survived by her sons Walter Allen Walker III of Rehoboth Beach, DE and Martin Whitt Walker (Sharon) of Huntsville, grandsons Garrett Walker (Adrienne) of Belton, SC and John Carter Walker (Felicity) of Huntsville, one great granddaughter and nephew Ted Lee of Austin, TX.

A Graveside service will be held Tuesday, April 22 at 11 am at the Athens City Cemetery.  Martha Hauer will preside. Pallbearers will be Allen Walker, Whitt Walker, Garrett Walker, John Carter Walker, Fred Bickley and Bill Hightower.

The family would like to thank Linda Stanford, Rosa Bozarth, Bertha Frazier, Brenda Johnson, Barbara Brasher and Barbara Owens who lovingly cared for Marjorie during the last years of her life.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Hospice of Limestone County or Athens First Methodist Church.
