Spry Funeral Home was founded by Samuel Lowe Spry Sr. in 1919. Mr.
Spry spent his early childhood years living in Cairo (Kay-ro) of western
Limestone County.
For High School Community
Education, Mr. Spry moved to neighboring Rogersville, Alabama where he
first was introduced the funeral service, working with and living with
the local funeral director at that community.
After
high school graduation, Mr. Spry served his military service in World
War I, primary in France. After service he returned to the Cairo and
Rogersville Communities where he again persuaded funeral service.
Mr.
Spry's Mortuary education included school in Nashville, Tennessee with
this education Mr. Spry was on of the first embalmers in this area to
perform embalming in the homes of the deceased.
Mr.
Spry's commitment to funeral service expanded to several funeral homes
throughout North Alabama a long the way developing an Insurance Burial
Company.
Mr. Spry was also an avid cattle farmer for many years, raising register Charlois.
After
Mr. Spry's failing health, ownership of the funeral home came under the
leadership of his son James Spry. Now the funeral home is under the
ownership of Greg and Jimmy Spry, the third generation of Spry's in
funeral service.
