Ernest Tyrrell (Terry) Owen was born in Kissimmee, Florida on December 30, 1933 and passed from this life at his home on June 3, 2025 at the age of 91 years old.
 
Mr. Owen graduated with the last class of Orlando Senior High School in 1952 before the school became a Junior High.  He played French horn in Navy Bands during his four-year military service.
 
He earned a music degree at Stetson University and taught Instrumental and Choral music in Florida schools until 1989.  During his teaching years, he also served as Choir Director at several churches and sang with the Camerata and Encore Opera Choruses.  As a member of the Florida Vocal Association (FVA) he was a district judge for FVA Choruses.  In 1987 he was honored to be the director of the All-State Junior High Chorus at the MENC Convention in Tampa, Florida. In 2015 he was inducted into the FVA Hall of Fame.
 
Having lived in Florida his entire life and considering himself a “Florida boy”, in December 2005 he and his mother moved to Alabama to be nearer his brother and sister-in-law. He joined First Baptist Church of Athens and directed the Jubiliation Singers (Senior Adults Choir) for many years.  He not only enjoyed music, but also boating (having taken numerous trips on Florida Boat-a-cades and enjoying Mississippi River Boat Cruises) as well as driving his antique cars to local car shows.  
 
Mr. Owen is survived by his brother Randall H. "Doc" Owen (Nell) of Madison.  He was preceded in death by his father Albert Tyrrell Owen and his mother Freddie May Owen.

Services will be held at Spry Funeral Home, 804 Hwy 72W, Athens, AL at 2:00 pm Monday, June 9 with Dr. Edwin Jenkins officiating and congregational singing led by Wason Carroll.  Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm till service.  His body will be interred in the family plot at Rose Hill Cemetery in Kissimmee, FL.
