Current Obituaries
Nell Tays, beloved wife, devoted mother, and grandmother to her three grandchildren, entered into heaven on Tuesday, September 1st at 2:00AM. The past few years have been a long journey for her while fighting bravely against Alzheimer’s. She was a woman of faith, bravery, and determination and she has demonstrated grace and strength though every stage of this cruel disease.

Nell was born in Rogersville, Alabama on July 23rd, 1935. She grew up there where she was an active member of the Baptist Church and graduated from Rogersville High School.

Nell married Glenn Tays in 1954 and together they raised two children and were happily married for 53 years before Glenn’s passing in 2008.
Services will be 2pm Thursday at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Ron Oakley officiating, burial in Limestone Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 1pm until service Thursday at the church. Spry Funeral Home in Athens is directing.

Nell is survived by her husband of six years, Wayne Butler, her daughter and her son. Daughter, Sharon Lovell (husband Daniel, grandchild Matthew Lovell) Son, Timothy Lynn Tays, (wife Jill, grandchild Sarah Grace Tays).

Nell was preceded in death by husband Glenn Tays, her parents Lee Butler and Leona Butler and her youngest grandson Lucas Lovell.

In lieu of flowers, Nell requested donations to be made to the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Athens, Alabama. Address: Emmanuel Baptist Church

The Tays family would like to thank friends and family who have continually supported us the past few years through prayer, friendship, the giving of flowers, cards and gifts to “Momma Nell”. She loved you all so very much.

We grieve as “Momma Nell” leaves from this earth into heaven but we celebrate that she is now healed in the presence of Jesus.
