In Loving Memory of

Janie Beatrice Martin Owens

(July 22, 1927 – March 8, 2025)

Janie Beatrice (Martin) Owens, 97, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Regency Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Huntsville where she had been a resident for five years. Janie was born in Davidson County, Tennessee on July 22, 1927, to Alfred Eugene Martin and Hattie Anna (Dixon) Martin. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Donald Martin Owens; her sisters, Mary Jean Endicott and Merica Madge Wilkes; and her loving husband of 68 years, Dr. Willis Calvin ‘Pop-Pop’ Owens.

Mom-mom leaves to cherish her memory, her sons, Ron (Deborah) Owens of Athens, Alabama and Steven (Sandra) Owens of Huntsville; her sister-in-law, Patsy (Gary) Jackson of Corpus Christi, Texas; her ten grandchildren, Jo Ann Cantrell, Chris Owens, Jenny Funderburk, Charles Owens, Jan Anderton, Russell Owens, Andrew Owens, Nathan Owens, Joshua Owens, and Juli Owens, along with more than twenty great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Owens was a graduate of Goodlettsville High School. She was a member of the Twickenham Church of Christ in Huntsville and had been a member of the Woodmont Hills congregation in Nashville for many years. She worked for the National Life Insurance Company when young with her lifetime friend Shirley Cole. When her children were raised, she worked for the Southwestern Publishing Company, retiring in 1993 with over twenty years of service.

Mom-mom was an ever-present form of energy and love in our lives. She volunteered with the Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, and mission efforts. She gave crucial support to her husband in his profession and his ministry. She was constant in providing wonderful meals for friends and family and in meeting the needs of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was forever cleaning the house and cutting the hedge. She always motivated us and sometimes irritated us to be more. We pray that she finds rest by God’s mercy and comfort in His grace.

Mom-mom’s body will be laid to rest on Friday, March 14, 2025, at the Spring Hill Cemetery in Nashville, Tennessee. Visitation with family will begin at 10:30 a.m. A graveside service will follow at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hacienda of Hope Foundation, 7500 Whitesburg Drive, Huntsville, Alabama 35802 (online at haciendaofhope.org) or to Lipscomb University – Dr. Willis C. Owens Memorial Biology Research Fund (https://www.givecampus.com/campaigns/47579/donations/new - enter Owens in the Designation block).
