John Lee Sons, of Athens, died Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Athens Limestone Hospital, the result of complications from an illness.
John was born
April 21, 1941, to John W. and Katie L. (Baldwin) Sons in Athens, and graduated
from Athens High School in 1959. His work life spanned multiple roles -
serving as a police officer, working with rocket fuel maker Thiokol at Redstone
Arsenal and running delivery routes, eventually retiring from Aramark Uniform
Services.
He was also a devout member of Oakland Church of Christ in Limestone County. He was loved by all who knew him - especially those who benefitted from his kind heart, quick wit and unique ability to be able to fix almost anything. Nothing was more important to John than family. He married Nancy G. Pugh on Sept. 28, 1962 and, together, raised their children - Tamrah and Tim. They’ve also taken an active role in raising grandchildren and great grandchildren.
John is preceded in death by his parents and son, Timothy D. Sons.
He is survived
by Nancy and their daughter, Tamrah D. Fogleman, of Indian Trail, North
Carolina; granddaughters Lucretia A. (Sons) Link, of Athens, and Casey R.
Fogleman, of Indian Trail; grandson Trevor R. Fogleman, of Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma; and great grandsons Timothy and James, both of Athens. He is also
survived by two sisters, Linda Williams, of Athens, and Connie Gist, of Green
Hill, Alabama.
Visitation and
funeral services will be held on Friday March 28, at Spry Funeral Home
in Athens. Visitation begins at noon with services at 2 .p.m. Burial will
be at Roselawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Casey Fogleman, Dan Fogleman,
Trevor Fogleman, James Link, Lucretia Link and Timothy Rowe. Honorary
pallbearer : James Link Jr.
