Terry Lee Starnes, age 65, of Athens, Alabama, passed away on February 26, 2025.

Everyone in Athens knew Terry from the used automobile sales industry, but more than that, they knew him for who he was—a man who never met a stranger and had one of the most likable personalities you’d ever come across. He could make you laugh even in the hardest of times, brighten anyone’s day, and make you feel drawn to him instantly.

Terry leaves behind his three sons, Adam (Chelsea), Dage, and Shane Starnes, and his four granddaughters, Camdyn, Emersyn, Rowyn, and Laikyn. He also leaves behind his mother, Judy, and father, Neal; his sister, Quinette (Leonard) along with their daughter, Mia; his brother, Lonnie, and nephews, Wyatt and Zane; his brother, Shannon (Jill) along with their daughter, Josie.

Terry had a genuine heart—if you were in need and he could help, he would. He made an impact not just with his words but with his actions. If there’s one thing to take from his life, it’s how to make others smile, not take life too seriously, and face anything that comes your way with laughter.

There won’t be a traditional funeral for Terry. Instead, his family will scatter his ashes into the river, a place that brought him peace and happiness.

This man will be remembered by many. Not everyone has the gift of making people feel instantly at ease, but Terry did. If we can learn anything from him, it’s how to be kind, how to bring joy to others, and how to live life with a smile.
