Elizabeth (Sister) Sue (Turner) Smith was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister. She left this world on January 23, 2024, at age 78.
Elizabeth was born on February 21, 1945, to Alex and Pearlie (Nalley) Turner in Elkmont, Alabama. She married Henry Houston Smith on July 24, 1965, in Giles County, TN. They moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where they raised their five children. She worked at Nashville Wire for 25 years before she retired and moved to Prospect, Tennessee. She loved to garden and spent countless hours working in her yard. She enjoyed sports, especially softball where she helped coach her youngest daughter’s team. But most of all, Elizabeth loved her family. She was a devoted mother who would sacrifice anything for her children. She was a fierce protector for the people she loved. She will be sadly missed by all.
Elizabeth is survived by her children, Temple Smith of Portland, TN, Ronald (Tammy) Smith of Marion, IN, Rhonda Smith of Portland, TN, Donald (Kathy) Smith of Prospect, TN; grandchildren, David (Danielle) Smith of Gas City, IN, Katie (Amber) Smith of Gas City, IN, Brandon Webb of Hendersonville, TN, Brooke Webb of Portland, TN; great grandchildren Graysen and Presley Smith of Gas City, IN; sisters, Susie Haggard of Athens, AL, Nancy (Roger) Haggard of Athens, AL; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by a daughter, Amy Smith; brothers, David, Alex (Buddy), and Howard Turner; sister, Linda (Faye) Mitchell.
There will be a private visitation for immediate family only, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Spry Funeral Home in Athens, Alabama. There will be a graveside service at 3:00pm at Antioch Cemetery in Elkmont, Alabama.
