Obituary

Cora Bauer Patterson, 94, passed away Friday November 29, 2024, at the Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
The daughter of Emma (Boeswetter) Bauer and Fredrick Aaron Bauer III, Cora was born on August 18th,1930 near Ardmore, Alabama. She graduated from Ardmore High School in Ardmore, Alabama. After graduation she moved to Selma, AL where she became a telephone operator for Bell Telephone.

Cora was united in Holy Matrimony to James Garland “Nick” Patterson Sr on October 2nd, 1953, at Central Baptist Church in Selma, Alabama. They lived in Luverne, Alabama after Nick returned from Korea. They later moved to Selma, Alabama where they lived until they retired to Thach, Alabama, near her childhood home.
For many years Cora was the Sunday School Department director for high school girls at Central Baptist Church in Selma where she impacted the lives of many young ladies. Over the years they fostered a number of children through the Methodist Children’s Home in Selma. They also hosted an exchange student, Myriam, from Switzerland for a year. Together Cora and Nick founded Patterson’s Service Center in Selma, which grew into a successful business selling and servicing timber harvesting and lawn care equipment. The business grew and changed over the years to include a service station, as well as sales and servicing motor scooters and then motorcycles. They also owned and operated a cattle ranch with the help of their sons. In their retirement years they traveled extensively, including one summer where they were campground hosts for one of the many campgrounds in The Great Smokey Mountains National Park.

Cora is survived by her son William Aaron “Billy” (Beth) Patterson, Daughter-in-law Rebecca Patterson; sister Jeanette (Sonny) Davis; Grandchildren, Justin (Kristen) Patterson, Heather (Robert) Roseberry, Jaime (Nick) Cochran, Chad (Leah) Patterson and Emmalie (Steven) Miori; Great-grandchildren, Jacob Patterson, Latham Cochran, Julianne Patterson, Addyson Cochran, Gibson Miori, Griffin Cochran, Hudson Patterson, Pearson Miori, Elliott Patterson, Jamesyn Miori, Fuller Patterson, Adair Patterson, Ellisyn Miori, Ford Bauer Patterson and loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces & great-nephews too numerous to list. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years James G. “Nick” Patterson Sr (October 30th, 2017), James G. “Jimmy” Patterson Jr (March 3rd, 2014) and Cynthia Daphene “Cindy” Patterson (April 14th, 1961); parents, Emma (Boeswetter) Bauer November 24th, 1979, Fredrick Aaron Bauer III (April 28th, 1939) and siblings Nora Ferguson, Annie Lee Ferguson, Artie Bauer, Paul Bauer, Carl Bauer, Walter Bauer and Alma Williams.
A graveside service will be held at the Germantown Cemetery on Saturday December 7th, 2024, at 3:00 PM followed by a time of celebration and fellowship at the Oak Grove Community Center. The service will be officiated by Rev. John Russell
Cora’s family is grateful for the love and support they have received during this difficult time, especially the outstanding care and compassion she received from the care team at the assisted living communities where she lived the last few years and Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa. I am blessed to have gotten to meet this sweet soul. Cora’s joy and kindness was so genuine and pure, every visit I had with her left me smiling. Thoughts & prayers go out to her family, I can’t wait to celebrate in heaven with her one day!
