Joel Aster Roberts, age 92 of Athens died Sunday, August 23, 2020  at Floyd E. Tut Fann State Veterans Home.

Mr. Roberts was born May 29, 1928 in Limestone County. A World War II United States Navy Veteran, and retired from NASA  He was a energetic person , after his retirement from NASA as a electronic technician, he enjoyed raising angus cattle, goats and vegetable gardening. He started his own plumbing and electrical business as well as assisting others with handyman task. He continued these functions for many years until his health began to decline.

 

Graveside service will be 11 am Tuesday at Limestone Memorial Gardens with military honors, and Joe Teal officiating. Memorials may be made to Alabama Baptist Childrens Home and St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

 

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Betty Jean Boyd Roberts.

 

Sons, Joel Keith Roberts of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Stanley Boyd Roberts and wife Keri of Athens. Two grandchildren who were the delight of his life, Ashlyn Shay Roberts, and Carson John Roberts all of Athens.

Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Carson Roberts and Mary Etta Hadden Roberts. Sister, Christine Vessels. Brothers, Cosmoe, Clayton, Gilbert and Adron Roberts.
