David Glen Carter, age 57 of Athens died Sunday at Athens Limestone Hospital.

David was born October 14, 1962 in Madison County, Alabama. David was a minister for thirty eight years where he served at various churches, the last being at First Baptist Church Athens as the Pastor to children and young families. David was a impact at local schools through his reading programs where his kids knew him as Storyman or Maddog.  David was the voice of the Golden Eagles basketball games as there floor announcer. He was a devoted husband and a awesome Dad, and a friend to anyone.

Survivors include, Wife, Renee Carter of Athens. Mother, Wilma Carter, Huntsville. Daughters, Haley Carter of Huntsville, Hannah Carter of Athens. Hope Carter of Athens. Brother, Craig Carter of Huntsville.

David was preceded in death by his father, Crawford C. Carter Jr.

Those serving as pallbearers will be Carl Runyon, Richard Peck, Terry Sharp, Jason Sharp, Jason Hodges, Andy Balch, Jamey Peck, and Jonathan Peck.

 
 
Due to the COVID -19 virus the memorial will be a private, family only service. The service will be available on the fbcathens.org website on Thursday evening.

The family ask anyone wishing to make a memorial donation to make it to scholarships for WinShape camp or donate children’s books in his memory for local schools. FBC Athens will provide links for donations. Spry Funeral Home is assisting the family.

We had the pleasure of getting to know David the last four years. David had a big heart for kids of all ages and always had a smile on his face. We know he made a big impact on the lives of many people and he will truly be missed. Renee, Haley, Hannah, Hope and the rest of the family you are all in our thoughts and prayers during this time.

Dearest Ones,
No words can describe the loss of your and our dear David. I have always known David did a great job as our
children's minister. Since I went to work along side him last October, I KNOW how special he loved and how
loved he was by so many! He loved you 4 ladies so much and was so proud of you 3 girls. Renee he would say
after the 11 o:clock classes would start. I am going to sit and worship with Renee. David loved well and David

Renee, Haley, Hannah, Hope we are so sorry for your loss. David was such a wonderful and totally complete Christian. We like everyone else loved him and would like to have more of his characteristics. Wish we could do more but now we just pray for you all. Please be assured of our love for your family. So glad we had the privilege of working with David and getting to know him and call him our friend.

Brother David was always such a bright spot in our church. His kindness for our grand baby Piper will never be forgotten. He always went above and beyond to make her feel welcome.
Count us among the many that will miss him. How fortunate we are to have known David.

David was a good friend. I don’t think I have ever known anyone who enjoyed the little ones so much and gained such pleasure from being with them and still had an amazing way to teach them and guide so well. I will miss him.
