Elizabeth Ann Shelton, age 64, of Athens, AL, passed away on August 3, 2023. She was at
 
home surrounded by family.
 

Ann was born July 8, 1959, in Staunton, VA to Joe Martin and Janeta (Nichols) McGee.
 
At age 12, her father took a new job promotion with Lowe’s Hardware Stores in Pensacola,
 
FL. Ann graduated from Woodham High School of Pensacola in 1977 and attended Troy
 
State University in Troy AL. Ann later obtained her Associate’s Science Degree from Bee
 
County College in Beeville, TX.
 

Ann was married in Pensacola to LT (USN) Michael Shelton, of Newport, in July 1979. They
 
have two children and four grandchildren. As a family, they moved to many new locations as
 
her husband was transferred to new duty stations. He retired from the Navy as a Lieutenant
 
Commander (LCDR) in 1993. Their son and daughter are married and have two children
 
each.
 

After living in northern Virginia for almost 30 years, Ann and her husband moved to Athens,
 
AL to be closer to family and live in a more relaxed area. They celebrated their 44 th wedding
 
anniversary on July 7 th .
 

Ann always had family as her first priority. She was crazy about kids and especially her three
 
granddaughters and grandson. She earlier retired as a teacher aide in a variety of
 
elementary school settings. She particularly flourished in working with learning-challenged
 
kids.
 

She and Mike first met in 1978 while he was a Naval Aviation flight student. They were
 
married for 44 years. They loved to travel.
 

Mrs. Shelton was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Jan McGee. She is lovingly
 
survived by her husband and son Michael II (wife Noelle), daughter Heather Anderson
 
(husband Matt), granddaughter Lily Shelton, grandson Joseph Michael Shelton,
 
granddaughters Lorelai and Autumn Anderson, and sister Linda (McGee) Thompson.
 

The reception of family and friends, and viewing, will be from 10:00–11:00 AM Monday,
 
August 7, 2023, at Spry Funeral Home, Athens, AL. A Celebration of Life memorial service
 
will begin at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Gary Enfinger officiating. Graveside service procession
 
will immediately follow for burial in Thatch-Mann cemetery in Athens.
