Graveside services for Mr. William “Bill” Oris Thomas III, of Athens, AL, will be Monday, February 28, 2022 at Montevallo National Cemetery at 1:15 p.m. with full military honors.  Visitation will take place Sunday, February 27, 2022 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Spry Funeral Home in Athens.

 
Mr. Thomas, age 75, passed away Monday, February 21, 2022 at Huntsville Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born to Mr. William Oris Thomas, Jr. and Rachel Zilla Seibenhener Thomas on October 17, 1946 in Cullman, Alabama.

 
Mr. Thomas served his country during the Vietnam war. He was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force.  He honorably served from 1966-1970 and he was a disabled veteran. He loved God, his family and his country.  He and his wife were foster parents for 11 years and fostered 25 children. He was employed by Thompson Caterpillar for 38 years. Mr. Thomas was a born-again Christian saved by grace through our Lord and Savior.  He was of the Baptist faith. He served as a Sunday School teacher and Training Union Director over the years.

 
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Diane Smith Thomas; two sons, Will Thomas (Contessa) and Jacob Thomas (Julie); two daughters, Olivia Thomas Marks (Telly Marks) and Sarah Ruth Thomas; one sister, Connie Thomas Wilhite (Darrell Wilhite); eight grandchildren, Jared Montague, Helen Montague, Charlotte Montague, Adeline Thomas, Evangeline Thomas, Liam Thomas, Cooper Thomas and Elliott Thomas.
