Virginia Nichols passed peacefully on February 18, 2022.

She loved her family very much as they loved her.  Virginia was born on April 23, 1934 to Blanche and James in New Bern, North Carolina. She attended New Bern High School and went on to college at Meredith Baptist College and graduated in 1956 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration with a minor in teaching.

The summer before she graduated college she met James Nichols at the Trent Pines Club. They were married in November of 1957 in the First Baptist Church in New Bern, North Carolina. After their marriage, James's job required them to relocate around the United States and finally in 1969, they settled in Buena Park, California where she remained for 50 years. She was employed with the Social Security Administration for 30 years and retired in 2004.  In September of 2019, at the age of 85, Virginia made her final move back to the South to Athens, Alabama.  She loved Christmas Eve, and enjoyed having family and friends over to celebrate. She has left her family with many traditions to remember her by.

She is survived by her children James (Suzan) Nichols of Chino Hills, California and Nancy (Ed) Hipolito; her grandchildren Alex Plog, Amanda (Taylor) Kiss, Amy (Justin) Billinger, Ashlee and Allyson Nichols, Ruben (Erica), Robin, Roxanne, Rocco, Roman, Rolan, Ricco, and Hannah Hipolito and one great grandchild Esmeralda Hipolito.

Services will be 2pm Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Spry Funeral Home Chapel in Athens with burial in Ripley Cemetery.

Visitation is from 12noon until service Saturday at the funeral home.

“The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart” Psalm 34:18. Keeping your precious family in our prayers and know that you are surrounded by our love and more importantly, the love from the Great Comforter.
