James Buford Spry Sr. age 91 of Center Star died Thursday January 27, 2022 at his residence.

Mr. Spry was born February 28, 1930 in Rogersville, Alabama to Samuel Lowe Spry Sr. and Birdie Thornton Spry. Mr. Spry was a 1950 graduate of Lauderdale County High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After the service he returned to Rogersville to work with his Father in cattle farming and Spry Funeral Homes. After the death of his Father he became partners with his Brothers in the continuation of the cattle farming and funeral home operations. Later he became the sole owner of Spry Funeral Home, Athens , Alabama. Mr. Spry was instrumental in the founding of Brooks High School, and continued to be a supporter for many years until his health failed. He was a member of Old Mt. Bethel Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Rogersville, where he served in many capacities.
 
He is survived by his wife, Robbie Nell Thornton Spry of Center Star. Daughters, Patricia Spry Howard (Steve) of Center Star. Marla Jo Spry (James Wilson) of Northport, Alabama. Sons, Jimmy Spry (Cindy) of Athens. Greg Spry (Sharon) of Athens. Grandchildren, Rita Howard Behel (Kraig), Casey Howard (Rhonda), Wesley Howard (Katie), Ashley Spry Stogner (Charlie), Jaimi Spry Wilson (Hobie), Aubrey Spry, Macy Spry, Briar Wilson and Stella Wilson. Ten Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  

 
Pallbearers will be Casey Howard, Wes Howard, Briar Wilson, Pat Parker, Drew Spry and Tommy Word.

Honorary pallbearers, Sam Camp, Mike Parker, Stevie Corum, Horace "Junior" Jordan, Doyce Barnett, Kenneth Croley, Joey Baker, and Chris Tank.

 
Visitation will be Thursday, February 3rd from 6-9 pm at Spry Funeral Home, Athens. Services will be 1pm Friday in the chapel of Spry Funeral Home with Terry Herston officiating, burial to follow in Ingram / Thornton Cemetery in Rogersville.

 
Memorial donations may be made to Old Mt. Bethel Cumberland Presbyterian Church, St. Jude Children's Hospital, or Brooks Athletic Booster Club.
