Bro. Bates had a profound impact on my life. He was my Bible class teacher. He was one of the first elders at Brentwood. He and Polly lived close to us when my wife and I were first married and were a great source of help and counsel. Though short in stature, Bro. Bates stood tall in the faith. He stood for the one true church and for the authority of the work and worship of the church. His influence will always be remembered.
