Clifford Devaughn Downs, 94 of Madison, Alabama died Sunday, September 3, 2023 at Hospice Family Care in Huntsville.
Mr. Downs was born November 9, 1928 in Lauderdale County, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Tanner, a US Army Veteran and a retired Farmer.
Services will be 11AM Wednesday at Spry Funeral Home Chapel in Athens with Keith Tuberville and Gary Enfinger officiating and burial in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday 9AM until service at Spry Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Clellon Downs, Gary Downs, Randy White, Brad Zirbel, Wes Slone and Stratton Garner.
Survivors: Son: Ricky Downs and wife Donna of Madison, Daughter: Sherry Newton and husband Perry of Madison; Sister: Robbie Evans of Athens; Grandchildren: Mia Slone and husband Wes and Kayla Garner and husband Stratton; Great Grandchildren: Jordan Slone, Paisley Garner and Sawyer Garner. Special Care Givers: Darlene Elders, Dorothy Mullins, Megan Clayton, Linda Hobson and Gwen Taylor.
Preceded in death by: Wife: Olean Downs.
Memorials may be made to Huntsville Hospital Hospice or St. Jude’s Hospital.

Nancy was always a sweetheart! Very thoughtful, fun and generous friend! So many wonderful memories. We went to Bama together, sorority sisters, lived in CO at the same time. I moved back to TN Nashville and she to Athens. I’d come see visit her from time to time early on in my young adult life. It was Always fun! I moved back to Boulder 11 years ago. So didn’t stay in touch but We’d exchange holiday cards. What a Beautiful gal, heart & soul!!! All my love!! Gina Grivich Farrar
