William Kyle “Buddy” Casteel, Jr., passed away Monday, June 19, 2023, at his home in Rockvale, Tennessee.
Buddy was born in the Lentzville Community of Limestone County, Alabama, November 12, 1934, to the late William Kyle Casteel, Sr., and Lela Myrtle Wooldridge Casteel.Following graduation from West Limestone High School, Buddy moved to Nashville, Tennessee. December 14, 1957, He married his longtime sweetheart, Mattie A. Adams, also of Limestone County, and they settled in Nashville.
Buddy Casteel was a lifelong believer in Jesus Christ; a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Most recently, he was overjoyed at the birth of his first great-grandchild.
For more than 50 years he managed production for Capitol City Fluffo Mattress. He was a master gardener, growing enough vegetables in his backyard garden to feed his family, his neighbors, friends and sometimes even strangers. He was a loyal friend, especially to his fellow Friday Night Singers. Buddy was a passionate fan of Crimson Tide football ever since Bear Bryant played for the team and after he and Mattie move to Rockvale, he looked forward every week to game day with his family.In addition to his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by siblings Evelyn “Polly” Dye, Melvin Casteel, Mary Blankenship, and Edna Dildine; and by his beloved son-in- law, Christopher McLaurin.
Buddy is survived by his wife of more than 65 years, Mattie Adams Casteel; daughters Lisa McLaurin and Tracey Casteel; grandsons Austin Steele and his wife Sarah, and Colin McLaurin; grand-daughter Lydia Taylor and her husband Jared; and great-granddaughter Finley Faye Taylor. His surviving siblings are Doris Paul “Johnny” Casteel, Shirley Wyvonia Black and Jimmy Wayne Casteel. Additionally, he is survived by scores of treasured nieces and nephews.
Visitation with Buddy’s family will be 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home in Athens, Alabama, followed by service at 1:00 P.M. in the Spry Funeral Home chapel and burial in Lentzville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Troy Blankenship, Jamie Casteel, Jeff Casteel, Paul Casteel, Colin McLaurin and Jared Taylor. Honorary Pallbearers are Hughes and Connie Chevalier, Roy and Linda Gambrell, Jason Powell and Katherine Sjoblom, Leon and Kristin Oudbier.
