Billy Wilson Battles, age 72, died on June 1, 2023 in Camden,
South Carolina.
He was born in Athens, Alabama the son of the late Robbie
Battles Goforth and William Andrew Battles. In addition to his parents, Bill
was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Carpenter.
Bill is survived by his daughters Janet Schafer (Scott) of Camden, South
Carolina, Naomi Battles of Attala, AL, Christy Borgersrode (Rudy) of Rainbow
City, AL, and son, David Battles (Melissa) of Woodbridge, VA, sister Janet
Davenport (Tommy) of Muscle Shoals, AL , thirteen grandchildren and several
nieces and nephews.
Bill was most proud of his service to his country being retired from the United
States Army, serving tours to Viet Nam. Later in his life he retired from the
U.S. postal service.
A memorial service for Bill will be held Saturday July 15, 2023 at 11 am at
Ripley Cemetery with full military honors.
