James Alton Sanders, 72 of Athens, Alabama, died Sunday, May 9, 2021 at Limestone Health Facility.

Mr. Sanders was born December 18, 1948 in Limestone County, he was a member of Clements Baptist Church and he was retired from Athens Limestone Hospital.

There will be a 1pm Memorial Service Friday at Clements Baptist Church Poplar Creek Campus with Charles Simmons officiating. Spry Funeral Home in Athens is directing.

Survivors: Wife, Sherry Sanders of Athens. Brother, Don (Jimmie Lee) Sanders of Madison. Sister-in-Law: Gina (Joe) Lovett of Athens.

Preceded in death by Parents, Virgil J. and Nellie Mae Sanders.

Kirk, I was just going through some old cards and notes of my Mother, Mildred Thornton, from your Mother! So many fond memories of them, our Dads and thinking of all the fun they had together.
I hope you and your family are doing well!
My husband Ellis and I live in Birmingham. Hoover to be exact. We moved back in January of 2020. We lived in Baton Rouge for 22 years. My two children, Abbey and Harry Blalock live in Birmingham now too.
