Gary Dean Daly, 73 of Elkmont, Alabama, died Saturday, September 23, 2023 at his residence.

Mr. Daly was born December 24, 1949 in Limestone County and he was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, Elkmont. He started his Law Enforcement career at Athens Police Department, then Limestone County Sherriff’s Office where he held multiple positions, then he became Limestone County Commission Chairman from 1986 until 1990 and then Ardmore Police Dept. Mr. Daly was Limestone County District One Commissioner from 2006 until 2014 and then went back to the family farm.

Services will be 1pm Wednesday at Spry Funeral Home Chapel in Athens with Mitch McCormick and Toney Wales officiating and burial in Roselawn Cemetery.

Visitation is Tuesday from 6pm until 9pm at Spry Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be John Emfinger, Timmy Lewis, Chris Paysinger, Jaffe Paysinger, Nick Daly, Rodger Burcham and Bennett Daly.

Survivors: Wife, Barbara Barlett Daly of Elkmont. Mother, Eva Mae Wales Daly of Elkmont. Daughters, Ellen (Bruce) Emfinger of Valley, AL and Beth (Garry) Freeman of Toney. Sons, Colin (Penny) Daly of Elkmont and Nobie (Shannon) Daly of Elkmont. Grandchildren, Ansley Emfinger, John Emfinger, Timmy (Abbie) Lewis, Bennett Daly, Leah Daly, Riley Daly and Hannah Daly. Great Grandchildren, Abree Tucker, Clayton Tucker, Elaina Lewis and Waylon Metcalfe. Granddaughter-in-Law, Taylor Lewis. Sister, Sherry Paysinger of Athens. Brother, Randall Daly of Elkmont. Preceded in death by: Father, Billy (Nit) Daly. Grandson, Jordan Lewis.

Memorials may be made to New Bethel Baptist Church in Elkmont, AL or Athens Farmers Market, 107 N. Jefferson Street, Athens, AL 35611.

The Smalley family wound like to extend our deepest sympathy for the lost of your loved one our thoughts and prayers will be with you.
Gary was a good man with a good family all so kind and caring.
It was a pleasure to know this man and his family.
