Burton Luther (B.L.) Griggs, age 81, of Athens, Alabama, passed away in his home of 49 years on the afternoon of March 23, 2024, surrounded by his wife, daughters, and brother.
 
 

B.L. was born on February 20, 1943, in Anderson, Alabama. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Linda Griggs; daughters, Alishia Long and Michelle Garner; their spouses, Mark Long and Chris Garner;grandchildren, Jake Garner, Annastyn Garner, Gracie Long; sister, Pat McConnell; and brother, Edgar Griggs.
 
 

He was preceded in death by his father, Burton Luther Griggs; mother, Grace Griggs; and sisters, Genese Hightower and Wynette Chittam.
 
 

B.L. graduated from West Limestone High School in 1961 and married his wife in 1962. He attended Calhoun Community College and then attended Athens State University, graduating in 1976. His career flourished while working at 3M for 40 years, retiring in 2000.
 
 

B.L. was a proud and faithful member of Salem Methodist Church, where he was chairman of the board and enjoyed singing in the choir. He loved spending his days playing/watching golf and spending time with his grandchildren. Above all, B.L. was so many things to so many people in his life. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, a caring brother, and an adoring grandfather. He was a truly cherished friend to all that had the privilege of knowing him. His heart was carved from pure gold, always there for anyone who needed an attentive listener, an optimistic point of view, or a shoulder to bear the weight of your sorrows. B.L. did not live his days only for his peace and happiness, but more so for the peace and happiness of others. Those in his life will forever aim to possess his endless compassion, inspirational grace, and his elegant strength.
 

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 27 th , 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM. Services will be at 1:00 PM with internment following at New Salem Cemetery.

BL was a sweet and kind person if saw you. he knew you! always very friendly I was raised at Good Springs so we were friends for a long time Gennell McGraw is my first cousin we may not be able to go to vistation but wanted the family to know we are so sorry an loved Bl to prayer's for the family

My sincerest condolences to Linda and family. I am so grateful to have known BL and for all the help he and Linda gave to my Grandma, Stella Diemer. He was so kind and generous and always smiling. May he Rest in Peace.
