Buford Lavon McBay, 90 of Athens, Alabama passed away on October 20, 2020 in Goodsprings, TN.

Mr. McBay was born June 3, 1930 in Limestone County to Alma & Sammie McBay. He was a member of Bethlehem Methodist Church in Athens, he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Buford worked at NASA and retired from the Corps of Engineers in Huntsville, Alabama in 1987. He enjoyed making all kinds of crafts, especially wood working and painting.

There will be a private Graveside Service with Military Honors, Dusty McLemore is officiating.

He was preceded in death by his wife, of 64 years, Virginia Ruth McBay, Parents, Sammie & Alma Cooley McBay. Brothers, Leon McBay, Tyler McBay, Clifford McBay and Glenn McBay.  Sister, Nina Clark.

Survivors: Daughters, Linda Paajanen (Bill) of TN, Karen Bynum of Decatur. Son, Barry McBay of Birmingham. Grandchildren, Scott Sandy (Kelli), Jada Thomas (Matt), Beth Damron (Mark), Brandon McBay, William Bynum II, Matthew Bynum, Miriam Stover (Nikita). Eleven Great Grandchildren, Shaw Sandy, Sam Sandy, Jack Thomas, Max Thomas, Rowe Thomas, Neely Damron, Stratton Damron, Annie Damron, Joy Damron, Annie Damron,Trajan Stover. Brother, Kenneth McBay (Sandra) of Meza, AZ and Sister, Itylean White (Bobby) of Athens.

A special thank you to all of his caregivers & Compasses Lawrenceburg, TN.

In lieu of  flowers, the family request donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Alabama Kidney Foundation or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
