Lawrence Gene Williams age 80 of Athens died Friday at his residence.
Mr. Williams was born April 9, 1942 in Jefferson County, Alabama. He was retired from Monsanto of Decatur, and a U. S. Navy Veteran.
A graveside service will be 2 pm Tuesday at Limestone Memorial Gardens with Rick McGill speaking, visitation will be Tuesday from 12 noon until 1:30 pm at Spry Funeral Home.
Survivors , Step Daughters, Pamela Harrison and Shelia Thompson both of Athens. Niece, Benita (Billy) Bake of Oklahoma. Step Grandchildren, Amanda McDowell of Rockvale, Tennessee. Daniel Little of Athens. Josh Spry of Athens. Jake Spry of Atlanta, Georgia. Two Step Great Grandchildren.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his Parents, William Williams and Lucille Clem. Wife, Shelby Jean Williams. Brother, Joe Williams and Sister, Libby M

When I came to Athens first and needed to visit some friends I had seen the day before,
and got lost; I pulled into a parking lot, and a red Kia was coming out. I flagged it down
and the window rolled down, and it was Gene. He was one of those friends from the day before.
He drove by the location I was seeking, just to show me the way.
He will be missed by his friends In Athens, as well as his family.
May The Almighty rest his soul, and comfort his loved ones, a day at a time, from now on.
