Jerry W. Hill was born and raised in Athens, Alabama.

There will be a 2pm Graveside Service Tuesday at Roselawn Cemetery. No visitation planned. Spry Funeral Home is directing.

He joined the Army in 1957. His first job was as a Telephone Lineman supporting the 25 Signal Battalion in Germany where he met is wife Briggitte. They married in 1960 and had 3 children, Jerry Jr, Gloria, and Shelia. In 1961 Jerry decided to join the Green Beret. He later participated in multiple Vietnam War operations for which he received a Bronze Star, a Silver Star and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. His proudest achievement was as a Son Tay Raider as part of a POW rescue mission that occurred in 1970 called Operation Ivery Coast. He later retired from the Army after 20 years of service. Jerry returned to the Huntsville area joining AMCOM as an acquisition specialist. After a second successful 20 year career, he retired in Athens in 1998. Jerry was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Athens.  His study of the Bible was his passion. He is survived by 2 children, 4 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. He is with the Lord and we will miss him dearly.
