George Allen Stewart, 78 of Athens passed away Saturday May
28, 2022 at his residence.
Service will be 11 AM Wednesday at First Baptist
Church (Chapel) with Reverend Bob Dalton, Keith Smyser and Joel Carwile
officiating (lie-in-state from 10-11 AM). Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 PM
until 8 PM at Spry Funeral Home. Burial will be in Athens City Cemetery.
He was
born August 22,1943 in Limestone County. He was a member of First Baptist
Church of Athens, a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. He was Pastor of Elkton
Road Baptist Church, Elizabeth Baptist Church in New Washington, IN,
Fairview Baptist Church in Florence, AL, Orr Street Baptist Church in Alexander
City, AL, First Baptist Church in Center Star, AL, Friendship Baptist Church in
Killen, AL. He was a Graduate of Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY and a
Graduate of Florence State University.
He is survived by: Wife: Patsy McDowell
Stewart of Athens, Daughters: Helen (Greg) Smith of Northport, AL, Dawn
(Charles) Wood of Toney, AL, Jessica (David) Dempsey of Athens, Grandchildren:
Drake Ducharme, Logan Wood, Eden Dempsey, Megan Smith, Liam Wood, Elli Dempsey,
Emaris Dempsey, Several Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by:
Parents: Arthur and Rebecca Stewart, Half Sister: Shirley Ann Lee.
Pallbearers
will be: Jeff Glaze, John Harlow III, Dusty Meadows, Michael Glaze, Kyle
McDowell and Harlow Fikes.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: John Alfrey, Bill
Greenhaw, David Hannah, Joel Glaze, Tommy Hardison, Larry Sartain, Connely
Taylor, Colby Handley, Johnny Parker, Greg Weigart and the Maturing Adult
Class.
In Lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Parkinson's Foundation
or First Baptist Church.
