Donnie Earl Clem, 71 of Athens, Alabama, died Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Huntsville Hospital.
He was born August 14, 1951 in Alabama, he was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran. He retired from Alabama Department of Transportation after 33 Years of service. Donnie was a bridge tender for Keller Memorial Draw Bridge and he was the superintendent for Morgan and Limestone County Road Department. He won awards for the best Rest Station on Highway 65 in Elkmont and also received awards for his excellent work on the highway department in Montgomery. When he was a child he helped keep books for ballgames with his father Coy Clem.
Services will be 1pm Wednesday at Spry Funeral Home Chapel in Athens with Jerry Wayne Collins officiating with burial in Limestone Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 6pm until 8pm Tuesday at Spry Funeral Home.
Survivors: Wife: Vonda Clem of Athens; Brothers: Stanley Clem of Birmingham and Robert Clem of Robertsdale, AL; Sisters: Edna Hardiman of Hazel Green, AL, Coyce Ann Young of Kissimmee, FL and Lynette Collins of Athens; Several Nieces and Nephews.
I like to personally thank the wonderful nurses on the 4th floor of Decatur General Hospital and his niece Christina Clem.

Donnie was a member of the Decatur High School Class of 1970. Always thought he had the coolest job as bridge tender! Our sympathies to his wife and family. He'll be missed.
