Derrick Andrew Barnett age 45 of Athens died Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Athens Limestone Hospital. Mr. Barnett was born July 17, 1974 in Limestone County, employed by Nucor Steel of Decatur, he was a member of the church of Christ.
Services will be 2 pm Tuesday in the chapel of Spry Funeral Home, Athens., burial to follow in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6- 8 pm Monday at Spry Funeral Home, Athens. Brother James Turner and Mike Blakely officiating
Pallbearers will be, Heath Baugher, Justin Ritter, Chad Carter, Todd Stephenson, Brandon Elmore and Jamison Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Brackeen, Jason Ridgeway, Brandon Hargrove and Derek Tennison.
Survivors include his Father, David A. Barnett of Athens. Daughter, Brianna (Blake) Gilliam of Athens. Sisters, Vickie Williams and Leshia Bacon both of Athens. Several Nieces and one Nephew. Mr. Barnett was preceded in death by his Mother, Myrtle Ruth Toone Barnett.

My association with Larry goes back to the 1970's during my tenure at the Florence Police Department. Many was the time when we met at traffic accidents or crime scenes and I placed the victims into his highly capable hands. Thanks for your service Larry, and Godspeed.
