Thomas Edward
(Tom) McAlister, 71 died August 13, 2022, after a long battle with multiple
health issues.
Tom was a native of Russellville, Alabama. However, in 1987, he
chose to live, work, and become active civically in his beloved Athens. Tom was
born to Thomas Buell and Dorothy Jackson McAlister, August 27, 1950.
He is
survived by wife of 44 years, Rhonda Fleming McAlister of Athens. Son, Thomas
Edward (Mac) McAlister ll of Nashville, Tennessee. A special cousin
Sharon McAlister Grissom (Curt) and family of Athens.
Tom was a 1968 graduate
of Russellville High School and attended Florence State University. In 1978 he
began a long career with Nationwide Insurance, opening Tom McAlister Nationwide
Insurance Agency and Real Estate office in Athens in 1987. With a passion for
civic involvement, Tom became active in many local organizations including the
Chamber of Commerce, Industrial Development Board, Republican political groups,
and youth programs.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 20, 2022 at
11:00 am at Athens First United methodist Church with visitation to follow.
Those wishing to make memorials are encouraged to support the ministries of the
Athens First United Methodist Church.

Dear Rhonda, I have just learned of Tom’s passing. My heartfelt sympathies are with you and Mac at this time. Tom was a fine man. He will always be remembered fondly. I can’t imagine what you must be going through, but I’m here for you if you need anything. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you both.✝️❤️
