Linda F. Alexander died peacefully at her home in Athens,
Alabama, on July 15, with two of her dearest loved ones by her side.
Born in November 1946, Linda embodied a spirit of faith,
beauty, and strength. She never met a stranger, making friends wherever she
went. Always the cool mom, aunt, and friend, Linda was a close confidante to
many, a woman who really listened and showed she cared. Her warm smile and
soft, infectious laughter could light up a room, and her calm presence brought
peace to those around her.
Linda began teaching aerobics in the 1980s, teaching many
others to lead classes and using her passion for fitness to raise money for St.
Jude. She worked at beauty shops for decades, including Très Chic Coiffure, Que
Lindo, and Crowning Touch, with many clients and co-workers becoming lifelong
friends. Before retiring, Linda inspected salons for the State Board of
Cosmetology, meeting another network of friends across the state.
Above all, Linda led a life of faith and adored her
children, always putting God and family first. In addition to her immediate
family, Linda had a close family at Friendship Church as well as her previous
church, West Highland Baptist, both in Athens. She remained physically active
and loved to exercise through the years, and she always looked forward to
seeing her workout buddies at the Wellness Center.
Linda is pre-deceased by her beloved parents, Irene and John
Alexander; son, Neil Coffman; brother, Bob Alexander; and sister, Barbara
Christopher. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Brooke Coffman; sister,
Tonna (Steve) Hargrove; brothers, Jack (Martha Ann) and Jerry (Pat) Alexander;
many nephews and nieces, all of whom she deeply treasured, and her dog and
constant companion, Phil. Those close to Linda also include Jean Clarke, her
friend for more than 50 years, and Autumn Rhinesmith, who she considered a
second daughter.
Linda would want us to honor her by hugging, loving, and
supporting one another; sharing stories and fond memories; and showing
compassion and empathy to others like she did, especially those who need it
most. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to St. Jude and/or Hospice of
Limestone County, both of which Linda strongly supported. Linda’s family also
thanks Hospice of Limestone for the loving care they provided.
A memorial will take place July 31 at Friendship Church, 16479
Lucas Ferry Road, with visitation with family and friends starting at 1:00 and
services at 2:00, which Calvin Havins will officiate. This will be followed by
a circle of remembrance and celebration of life for close family and friends to
share stories, songs, tears, and laughter.
