Thomas Wayne Claxton, age 85, died February 27, 2026 at
Hospice Family Care inpatient facility in Huntsville, Alabama. He was born July
2, 1940 in Limestone County.
Mr. Claxton was a member of the Sardis Springs Church of
Christ in Athens and retired from Monsanto.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Erdie and Ila
Mae Griffin Claxton, his sisters, Mauvolean Gey (Lerman) and Joyce Martin
(O'Neal), and his brother, Eural Claxton (Robbie).
He is survived by his daughter, Joanna (Jeff) Schrimsher of
Athens, sons, Anthony (Phillis) Claxton of Athens and Jason Claxton of
Alexandria, Virginia, grandchildren, John (Autumn) Schrimsher of Elkmont,
Abigail (Zachary) Ferris of Athens, Anna (John) Noel of Athens,
great-grandchildren, Layton Schrimsher, Abraham Ferris, Shepard Ferris, Stayton
Schrimsher, Beasley Schrimsher, Noah Ferris, and his sister, Jeanette (Harold)
Holt of Athens.
The family will have a visitation at Spry Funeral Home of
Athens Sunday, March 1st from 12:00 noon until service time. Services will be
2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 1st at Spry Funeral Home in the chapel with Eddie
Littrell officiating. Pallbearers will be David Nunley, Joe Nunley, Donny
Claxton, Jeff Claxton, John Schrimsher and Zachary Ferris. Honorary pallbearers
will be John Noel, Layton Schrimsher, Scott Davis, and David Davis. Interment
to follow services at Roselawn Cemetery.
