Harry Hayes (Buddy) Laubenthal, 87, of Athens, Alabama, died Thursday night, April 30, at Crestwood Hospital in Huntsville following a brief illness.
Buddy was born in Athens, Alabama, in 1938 to Harry Leslie and Lila Hayes Laubenthal. He was a graduate of Athens College (Athens State University), a lifelong resident of Limestone County, a husband and father, and the owner of The Boat House in downtown Athens for over fifty years. He spent most of his life on Elk River where he enjoyed boating, fishing, gardening, and playing with his dogs.
Buddy is survived by his children, son Dr. John Lesly Laubenthal of Panama City, Florida, and daughter Leigh Carl Laubenthal Burger (Dan Burger) of Marietta, Georgia, whom he shares with their mother Penne Jones Laubenthal.

Buddy is predeceased by his wife Barbara B. Laubenthal and his sisters: Christine Grafton, Marjorie Mitchell, and Jane L. Bridgman.
The family will host a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, they kindly request that a donation be made to an animal rescue shelter.
