Curtis Daniel "Danny" Bates of Athens, age 74, died April 10, 2026 at his home. He was born March 23, 1952 in Limestone County. Mr. Bates was a member of Tanner Church of Christ, a veteran of the Alabama National Guard, retired from TVA and retired from Limestone County Schools as a bus driver. He enjoyed farming, raising cattle and horses.
Mr. Bates is survived by his sons, Daniel (Amy) Bates and Lucas Bates, grandchildren, Curt (Reagan) Bates, Bryleigh Bates, and soon to be great-granddaughter, brothers, Randy (Charlotte) Bates, Joseph Bates, and Anthony (Sharon) Bates.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Martha Bates.
There will be a visitation 10:00 a.m. to service time on Monday, April 13th at Spry Funeral Home. Services will begin at 3:00 p.m. Monday, April 13th in the Spry Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Mike Blakely and Mark Little. Interment to follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Jamie Bates, Hershal Swanner, Charlie Brown, Andrew Herron, Perry Baker and Jay Honea.
Memorial donations can be made to the Breast Cancer Association or the Alzheimer's Association.
