With sadness we announce the passing of Charolette Dean Vasser Groce, age 90, of Pensacola, Florida. Charolette passed in hospice care on Thursday, April 30, 2026.
She was proceeded in death by her husband of 65 years, Bobby Lee Groce, her parents Alma Pepper Vasser and Jerome Vasser and siblings Calvin Vasser and Jane Vasser Hudson. She has one living sister, Mary Ann (Henry) Long and beloved sister-in-law Sibby Groce (Pete) Mullowney. Charlotte was born in Athens, Alabama (Limestone County) on September 29, 1935. She was married to Bobby Lee Groce in 1953. She retired as the Payroll Clerk for the City of Athens after 30 years of service. After retirement she worked several years at Spry‘s Funeral Home where she greeted family members and their guests. She was blessed with 2 children: Jerry Lee Groce (Tammy) and Tammy Groce Wilson (David). There are 5 grandchildren: Holly Wilson Hardy (Josh), David Austin Wilson (Carley), Clifford Groce, Mallory Groce Hornsby (Lee) and James Wilson Groce (Taylor). She had 14 beautiful great grandchildren: Sadie Hardy, Lillie Hardy, Gabbie Hardy, Lexie Hardy, Jackson Wilson, Wyatt Groce, Isabelle Groce, Ace Hornsby, Maddox Hornsby, Rowan Groce, Hallie Groce, Lynnley Groce, Brooks Groce and Annie Groce. Charolette had many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. Charolette and her husband Bobby were long time members at Westview Church of Christ in Athens and after moving to Pensacola, Florida became a valued and loved member at Gateway Church of Christ.
Services will be held at Spry‘s Funeral Home, Saturday, May 9th. Visitation will be from 12 noon until 2:00 pm. Service will begin at 2:00 pm with internment to follow.
